Autumn UV care
Be strong!
Be strong!
Have you ever heard of the term "photoaging"?
This is a keyword that has become more common in recent years.
Photoaging is a skin aging phenomenon that is mainly caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays.
Of course, UV rays are present all year round, even in autumn and winter when the strongest summer UV rays are over.
From spring to summer, many people consciously take measures to protect themselves from UV rays every day, such as applying sunscreen carefully and using a parasol.
However, as autumn approaches, don't you sometimes find yourself neglecting your UV protection, thinking, "I won't be outside for long today, so it should be fine"?
In order to avoid photoaging caused by ultraviolet rays, it is important to take proper UV protection measures not only in summer but also in autumn and winter.
This time, the target audience was ordinary women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.
In order to investigate how many people are able to continue UV protection compared to the summer,
We asked ordinary women about UV care and photoaging.
First, we asked people about their awareness of sunburn this summer.
Do you feel like you've gotten a sunburn this summer?
"I feel that way a lot (22.4%)"
"I feel it (39.6%)"
It seems that about 60% of people experience sun damage in the summer.
What are your concerns about skin immediately after sunburn?
"Spots and freckles (51.2%)"
"My skin will darken (47.7%)"
"Redness (36.1%)"
Nearly half of the respondents tend to be concerned about cosmetic skin damage caused by ultraviolet rays, such as age spots, freckles, sunburn, and redness.
Summer is the season when UV rays and their damage to the skin are most noticeable, so many people seem to be conscious of UV protection all year round.
So, are there any differences in UV protection measures between summer and autumn?
We asked respondents what they do to protect themselves from UV rays in the summer (June, July, August) and autumn (September, October, November).
"Apply sunscreen"
"Using a Parasol"
"Use a hat or arm cover"
The top items are the same in both summer and autumn, but it seems that the number of people paying attention to UV protection is clearly decreasing.
While many people continue to take precautions against UV rays in both summer and autumn, it appears that around 30% of people change their attitude towards UV protection in autumn.
So why do we need to change our UV care routine between summer and autumn?
"Why do you change your UV care routine between summer and autumn?"
"Because I think the UV rays are less strong than in summer (59.8%)"
"Because I often wear long sleeves (47.3%)"
"Because it's cool (29.3%)"
As autumn approaches, many respondents cited seasonal reasons for reducing UV protection measures.
However, the fact that the sun is out still means that ultraviolet rays are beaming down on us all year round.
Exposure to ultraviolet rays can irritate the skin, but now that summer is over, what concerns do you have about your own skin?
Please select the skin problem you are currently experiencing.
"Spots and freckles on the face and back of the hands (44.7%)"
"Sagging skin (38.0%)"
"Overall dullness of the skin (30.8%)"
These symptoms can be said to be one of the symptoms of "photoaging" that occurs when prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays causes damage not only to the surface of the skin but also to the deep dermis.
However, when we investigated how many people knew about this skin aging phenomenon, known as "photoaging," we found that awareness of photoaging was at the level of "having heard of it," with only a minority of people knowing the details.
So we asked, "Please choose what you would like to do to combat photoaging."
"Thorough UV protection all year round (42.9%)"
"Rethinking skin care products (30.1%)"
In addition to UV protection, it seems that many people are also reassessing the skin care products they are currently using.
So what ingredients would you want to incorporate into such an endeavor?
"Antioxidant ingredients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid (88.5%)"
"Hyaluronic acid (53.1%)"
"Retinol or tretinoin (44.6%)"
Skin care products that use antioxidant ingredients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid seem to be popular.
